You're the centre of gravity, and that's fine. It's what founders are for. The problem is that nothing around you is in a stable orbit, so everything falls inward and burns up on contact with your attention.
A system in orbit doesn't need constant grip. The structure holds it in place, so nobody has to. That's the whole job: move things off the surface of the star and into orbit around it.
